The wheel with gondolas (3) pivoted at its circumference is rotated, horizontally. When a sufficient speed is reached, it is tilted towards the vertical. The hydraulic thrust cylinder (6) whose telescopic piston (13, 14) raises the arm, is supplemented by a second cylinder (10) arranged so that its piston (11) moves inwards and then outwards again as the arm rises from the horizontal to the vertical (B1 to B2 along circular arc centre A). The piston (11) is hydraulically coupled to the piston of a cylinder so as to compress the gas fully when the arm reaches the vertical. This stored gas pressure pushes the arm back across the point of balance when it returns to the horizontal.
