The method is for compression fitting telescoping elastic inner and outer synthetic resin pipes. The method comprises the steps of placing longitudinally spaced elastic packing and hard intrusion rings between telescoping portions of the pipes and partially within respective annular grooves on the periphery of one of the pipes. Then placing a press ring of initial diameter on the order of the outer diameter of the outer pipe on the outer pipe and overlying the packing and intrusion rings. The uniformly compressing the press ring between multiple press jaws having a circular opening in contact with the press ring of a diameter less than the diameter of the press ring to deform the press ring.
