1474133 Benzindole derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 16 July 1974 [16 July 1973 (2)] 31407/74 Heading C2C Novel benzindole guanidines of the Formula I wherein R 1 is a hydroxy or group, n being from 1 to 5, R 3 and R 4 are C 1-4 alkyl groups or R 3 and R 4 together form a C 2-3 alkylene group, R 2 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-4 alkyl or C 7-9 phenylalkyl radical the latter being optionally mono- or di-substituted on the phenyl radical by halogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy, and either X is a hydrogen atom and Y is a methyl group or X is a methylthio or di- (C 1-4 alkyl)amino group and Y is a hydrogen atom, or X is a chlorine or bromine atom and Y is a chlorine atom, or, when R 1 is the above acetal group, X is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl group and Y is a hydrogen atom, or salts thereof, are obtained by reacting the corresponding benzindole derivatives which are substituted on the nitrogen atom by groups of the formula -NH-C(NR 2 )SR 5 , R 5 being a C 1-4 alkyl group, with compounds H 2 N-R 1 . Pharmaceutical compositions comprise as active ingredient compounds of the Formula I or acceptable salts thereof, in association with carriers or diluents. 1 - Acetyl - 6 - bromo - 8 - chloro - hexahydrobenz[c, d]indole may be obtained by chlorinating 1-acetyl-6-bromo-hexahydro benz[c, d]indole.
