Vehicle DC linear induction drive - with pickup through wheels coupled to commutators on axle half shafts

The DC linear induction traction has sets of staggered coils (1, 2) around permanent magnet cores and electro-magnets, to drive the vehicle using the interaction with a fixed drive rail. The power is supplied by the two tracks via the wheels. The wheels are insulated from each other on the same axle and can thus be powered by DC. The switching of the coil supply is automatically controlled by simple commutators (7) on the axle half shafts. Speed etc. are controlled either by altering the DC supply for remote control or by on-board regulators. The drive can also be regulated by gearings between the commutators and the wheels.
