Combustible electrical igniter for projectile propellant charge - has combustible plate with metal foil contacts for power supply electrodes

The combustible igniter has an electrically initiated ignition cap. Ignition electrodes are brought out to the igniter housing bottom where they contact power supply electrodes. This initiator is for propellant charges of large calibre ammunition. Contact is assured even if tolerance ranges of few millimetres exist between the power supply electrode pins and the bottom of the igniting element. The bottom plate or layer of the igniting element is made from an electrically and thermally insulating material. This material which burns or decomposes on heating is pref. a foam plastics such as polyurethene. The insulating plate (4) has contacting surfaces in the form of strips or circles. These contacting layers are connected to the conductors by soldering, spot welding or by adhesive bonding by a conducting lacquer.
