Removable drain inspection plate - has load bearing steel plate upper with additional reinforced concrete ballast cast to underside of plate

The removable inspection cover for drains (1) has a load bearing upper steel plate (3) whose surface is patterned to prevents skidding of road vehicles. The edge of the plate rests on a steel abutment (2) which is set into the road surface. A concrete slab (4) of smaller lengthways dimensions than the plate is cast onto its underside and is reinforced by steel bars (7). The slab provides no load bearing but only additional weight to the cover to prevent it form moving when driven over. Holes in the plate between the edge of the abutment and the edge of the slab give ventilation to the drain.
