The non-slip device for the bottom end of walking stick or crutch comprises a sleeve, with a cone, a spring, and a steel spike which can be extended for icy conditions or retracted for normal conditions. In an example, the sleeve is installed by shortening a conventional stick or cructh by about 90 mm and fitting it onto the lower end of the stick. By actuating side knobs by applying downward pressure, the steel spike can be extended: the spike passes outwards through the rubber base and engages firmly e.g. in ice. For normal ground conditions, the knobs are compressed, and the spike springs back into an inoperative position in the sleeve by spring force, so that the stick rests on rubber base.
|
