Reversal point control for reciprocating machine parts - uses photo and mechanically scanned programming curve for producing control impulses

Machine for the production of spirally formed bodies uses machine parts which move to-and-fro and have their motion reversal point controlled by impulses obtained from photo-mechanical scanning of a programme curve. The curve is on a cylinder which is rotated by a synchronous motor. An upper holder carries a light source located free of contact within the cylinder. A scanning head vertically movable outside the cylinder parallel to its axis has suitable photoelectric receivers and moves between fixed terminal switches. The rotational speed of the cylinder is adjustable. The scanning head incorporates at least one phototransistor.
