The cardan joint is for connecting shafts with little or no axial tolerance. It consists of an inner hub and an outer ring, with an even number (usually six) of ball bearings in grooves between them. The hub and outer ring have their facing surface cut in an equilateral triangular shape, with spherical recesses (26, 27) for the balls. The hub grooves (4, 5) converge towards the joint axis on one side of the joint, and the ring grooves (7, 8) converge towards the axis on the opposite side of the joint.
|
