Recovering waste rubber from tyres - by disintegrating classifying and deep freezing in successive repeated stages to remove metallic parts

Waste rubber from pneumatic tyres is recovered by disintegrating the rubber into coarse particles for sepn. of metallic particles, classifying the residual fraction into metal contg. and metal free fractions, deep freezing the metal contg. fraction and disintegrating into fine particles to remove the metallic particles, mixing all metal free rubber fractions and disintegrating into fine particles to remove cord residues, regenerating the rubber fraction and treating with filler materials for further processing. Deep freezing may be effected using a mixture of dry ice and heat transfer liquid such as methanol, acetone. Alternatively, the freezing may be carried out by spraying liquid CO2. Freezing is effected at temp. below -60 degrees C (-60 to -79).
