1474208 Two part couplings AMP Inc 9 Aug 1974 [29 Aug 1973] 35189/74 Heading H2E An electrical connector comprises an integrally moulded plastics housing 10, with a base wall 49, a row of parallel walls 21, 48 extending across part of the width of the base and a transverse end wall 28, and in each of the compartments so formed, is mounted a steel metal contact 11, 12, 42 comprising a planar tongue 31 and U-shaped portions 13, 30 defined by two parallel plates 19, 20 connected by bights 17, 18. Two aligned slots 15, 16 extend through the bight and plates, the slot 16 being narrower and capable of penetrating the insulation 50 of an insulated wire, (to make permanent contact with the core) and the slot 15 gripping the insulation. The end wall 28 has slots 47, 14 with resilient barbs 59 to retain the wire. Each steel metal contact has a pair of ears 32 for engaging the base 49, and locating flanges 25, 24. A strengthening and contact locating rib 23 may be provided on each wall 21, 48 adjacent the end wall. |
