1474129 Microbiological production of ribose TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 22 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973 18 March 1974] 50666/74 Heading C2S A method of producing D-ribose comprises cultivating a microorganism of the genus Bacillus under aerobic conditions in a culture medium containing assimilable carbon and nitrogen sources and nutrients necessary for the growth of the microorganism, wherein the microorganism belongs to the genus Bacillus and lacks sporulation ability or has a high 2-deoxy-D-glucose oxidizing activity or has both of these properties and also lacks at least one of transketolase and D-ribulase phosphate 3-epimerase; causing the strain to elaborate and accumulate D-ribose and then recovering D- ribose from the resulting culture broth. The preferred microorganisms are B. pumilus IFO Nos. 13566, 13585, 13620 and B. subtilis IFO Nos. 13565, 13573, 13586, 13588 and 13621.
