[Also in Divisions B5, B8 and C3] Substrates of ferrous metal, tin-plate or aluminium are coated with a lacquer composition containing 1-15% by wt. (based on the total solids) of a particulate high density polyethylene having a carbonyl content of at least 0.4 milliequivalents per gram and a particle size <500Á. In examples the lacquer is based on a mixture of an epoxy resin and a phenol formaldehyde resin. The coated tin plate may be used in the fabrication of cans and crown caps for bottles. The lacquer may also be used in adhering polyethylene to tin plate or other surfaces (see Division B5).</p> |
