<p>Powder held in a storage hopper is fluidised with air by a rotating blade scraper and pushed into the top of a vertical transition cylinder where any lumps are crushed by more blades on a shaft that is an extension of the drive shaft of the hopper scraper. The powder hopper can be isolated from the cylinder by a plate which allows the shaft to continue revolving. The extension shaft has along its length a helical scraper for the inside wall which also moves the powder and water which enters the cylinder near the bottom end, into horizontal receiving and mixing cylinder, which also contains a helical scraper on a rotating shaft. The two helical scrapers keep the faces at the joining of the two cylinders clear of powder which would block the joining hole. A motor connected to the shaft of the horizontal cylinder, via a coupling which allows manual movement to unblock the mixer, rotates the helical scraper thus feeding the powder mixture to a volumetric pump. The amount of each component of the mixture is thus regulated by the other with the total discharge governed by the volumetric pump. Automatic cleaning of the mixer is achieved by stopping the powder feed by closing the plate between hopper and transition cylinder and keeping the water feed and scrapers rotating. Used for continuous mixing of fluids and powders, e.g. water and plaster, and to obtain constant homogeneous mixture. The mixture need not be degassed, and the process is continuous because there is no need to take account of particle size of powder component which gives non-homogeneous mixture, the process is continuous.</p> |
