<p>A horizontal shaft drives a generator via a transmission. The shaft carries pairs of one-way rotatable pulleys, each of which carries a bucket suspended on cables. The buckets are alternately filled with water and emptied so that they alternately move downwards to drive the shaft. Water is supplied to each bucket when this is held in its uppermost portion and the held bucket in position at the end of its upward travel. Levers (16, 17) are provided to initiate the downward movement of each bucket as soon as it is filled, at: the same time as the upward movement of the other bucket of the pair, with which it is coupled.</p> |
