<p>Radiation detector of the known type consisting of a tube containing a radiation-sensitive gaseous medium and a pair of electrodes and comprising (i) a high frequency potential source with is output, particularly a potential converter producing an a.c. high frequency potential from a low tension source, connected to a rectifier, (ii) a condenser in parallel with the electrodes of the detector tube, and having one electrode connected to the rectifier and the other to an output impedance, in such a way that the condenser is charged up to a pre-determined potential in the absence of radiation and discharges through the output impedance via the detector tube in the presence of radiations, whereby a pulse is applied to the output impedance. Gives a compact radiation detector of low current consumption which can be supplied from a low tension source, e.g. a rechargeable battery.</p> |
