1386348 Machine tool control A MOOSMANN 2 March 1972 [8 March 1971] 9757/72 Heading B3B [Also in Division G3] A pressure operated servo-turbine drive, e.g. for a lead screw drive of a machine tool slide, has an output stub shaft 1 coupled to a differential drive 4, 9, 10, 11 which also receives an output shaft 8 from a stepping motor 6 which feeds in target positional value data so that any difference between the target value and the actual value produces a drive to a toothed cam 19 having a cam surface 20, the said cam surface moving a pin cam follower 32 to actuate a control vane 35 of a fluidic control device 36 which controls the direction and rate of rotation of the servo-turbine. The cam surface 20 has two levels separated by an edge (38) (Fig. 6, not shown) against which the cam follower 32 engages in the synchronous rotation of the shafts 1 and 8. If the turbine shaft 1 leads or lags the shaft 8 the cam 19 is rotated and the cam follower 32 moves to adjust the position of a slotted vane 35 in the fluidic control device 36. With synchronous rotation a control air jet passes through the slot in the vane and is divided equally by a splitting edge into two passages. In a non-synchronous rotation the vane 35 is moved to deflect the air jet to give a greater proportion of air to one of the passages which differentially controls the speed of the turbine until synchronous rotation is established. |
