The continuous oxidative purificn. of alkyl-sulphonates comprise treating technical alkyl-sulphonate solns. at 40-100 pref. 90 degrees C and at pH 2-8, pref. 2-5, with O2-contg. gases and with thorough mixing. The alkyl-sulphonates are obtd. in a high degree of purity and the lightest possible colouration. The NaNO3, present in the crude prod. is largely decomposed with simultaneous removal of substances influencing the colour of the final prod.
