<p>The mine gallery has walls which are zig-zag shaped in plan view. It has a support system with three arches (A, B, C) made of channel or gutter-shaped members positioned along each step, matching the contour of the gallery. This contour consists of straight portions (8) alternating with curved portions (7), forming a polygonal shape. Several alternative shapes of tunnel cross-section are shown. In one design with a horizontal top (6) the curved portions (7) at the top have sharper bends than the lower curved portions. The different sections forming an arch are connected together by special connectors (9) which are bolted to the gallery roof.</p> |
