<p>Base oil compsns. comprise a hydrotreated base oil contg. 0.001-0.5 wt. % of a stable dye having a max. absorptivity in the 300-475 (pref. 340-440) nm. range. The dye improves the daylight stability of the oil. The oils can be used to formulate lubricants, transmission fluids and industrial oils. The base oil is pref. a hydrocracked and hydrofinished oil with a VI of 55-165 (esp. 75-135). The dye is pref. an azo dye, esp. an azobenzene deriv. in which one or both of the benzene rings is substd. by OH, alkyl, NH2, alkylamino, dialkylamino, and/or alkoxy.</p> |
