<p>In an apparatus for delivering articles to be washed to a processing machine, comprising (i) a frame on which an endless conveyor is displaceably mounted and is designed to be placed in front of the processing machine (ii) means for driving the conveyor (iii) at least one two-armed tongs for gripping the article to be washed, with means for displacing these tongs from a position where the article to be washed is picked up to a position above the upper part of the endless conveyor and for opening and closing the tongs at the required instants, the further improvements whereby (iv) a cavity is provided on at least one arm of the tongs and opens on the side of the arm opposite to the other arm (v) means are provided when tongs are held open by the opening and closing device at the pick-up positions, to create a reduced pressure in the cavity of the arm, at least until the means for opening and closing the tongs has closed these. Eliminates the need for an operator to hold the article to be washed in the tongs until these are closed again, since the article is now held by vacuum in the cavity. In addition a number of tongs can be provided so that more rapid delivery to the processing machine can be achieved.</p> |
