A main source of remaining noise in tracked vehicles is in the wheels round which the track turns at the end of its course. The rims of these wheels are connected to the hubs by two solid discs of steel, the noise arises from the vibration of these discs induced by the impact of the track segments on the wheel rim. These vibrations are damped by a sheet of sound-absorbing material pressed against the steel discs, pref. a sheet of a visco-elastic material (polyacrylate based) under a steel plate. This material can be applied either outside or inside the discs. if inside, it is cut away round the strengthening plates that run across between them.
|
