Simultaneous feeding of multiple electrode wires - in very large plant for submerged arc welding using consumable nozzles

Mechanism for feeding electrode wires in an installation for submerged arc welding using consumable nozzles, comrpises several pairs of grooved pinions mounted in rows, one pinions in each pair being driven to feed the wire down the grooves and consumable nozzles into the slag. >=2 pairs of pinions form a group with individual electric control of its common drive shaft, the number of the groups and their controls being multiples of three. Each group pref. contains six pairs of pinions, and potentiometers adjust the r.p.m. of the motors in each group, but a master control can also alter the r.p.m. of all motors simultaneously. The mechanism is useful in welding joints with thickness up to 2500 mm, in mfg. e.g. large welded rotors for turbo-generators, rolling-mill frames, press frames etc.
