Embolising media based on silicone rubber - contg. X:ray opaque material

Embolising media comprise a low-temp-vulcanising silicone rubber mass in combination with an X-ray opaque material. The silicone rubber mass can be injected in particulate (vulcanised) form or in liq. (unvulcanised) form, together with BaSO4 or Ta as X-ray opaque material. The prefd. silicone compsns. comprise (A) 45-90 pts. wt. of a polysiloxane with a viscosity of 700-7500 cS at 25 degrees C; (B) 5-50 pts. wt. of an organosiloxane copolymer; (c) 5-11 pts. wt. of an organohydropolysiloxane; and (D) a catalytic amt. of Pt or a Pt cpd. The embolising media, which induce thrombus formation when injected into blood vessels, can be used for therapy of inoperable kidney tumours, various forms of haematuria and arteriovenous cerebral malformations. The media are easily injected (e.g. by means of an arteriographic catheter) to form a mass with good tissue compatibility which is permanently located and not subject to enzymatic or cellular degradation. The position of the mass can be located by radiography.
