<p>The maize-harvester has plates (3) which shake the plant's stalk (1) downwards so as to remove the cobs (2). A chopper has a drive-axle (4) which is roughly vertical, and a horizontal chopper with blades (5). Between the plates (3) and the choppers (4, 5) are rollers (6, 7) forming a conveyor for the stalks (1). The rollers (6, 7) pull the stalks (1) almost vertically downwards through the gap between the plates (3), and pull them into the operating-range of the chopper blades (5), where the stalk (1) is chopped up at the same time as the cobs (2) are removed. the axles of the rollers point in the direction of travel. The axle (4) of the chopper is positioned to one side. The blades (5) are positioned at a relatively high position above the ground. The machine can incorporate a number of a harvester-implements to deal with several maize rows at a time. If the axle (4) is positioned close to the stalk's conveyor-plant the blades (5) have a longer operating range.</p> |
