The gap between the transparent and opaque sheets comprising the panel is narrow enough, at most five millimetres, for the solar heat absorbed by the opaque sheet to be conducted from the most part to the transparent sheet. Where the panel is fitted between double-glazed windows the first, transparent sheet faces the outside of the building. The second, opaque sheet faces the inside of the building and is coloured. A heat-reflecting layer is applied to the surfaces of the first and second sheets facing the inner space. The first and/or second sheets may be made of glass silicate.
