<p>A device for springingly forcing a one-piece, slit, piston ring, made of a deformable material which is elastic only to a limited extent, against the surface of a cylinder, uses springs which bear upon the bottom of a piston ring-groove Leaf-type spring strips are arranged about the circumference of the piston ring-groove, the spring strips being fastened, in their middle, at the bottom of the groove. The piston ring is made of PTFE or a compsn. contg. PTFE. The leaf spring strips taper towards each end. They are fastened to the piston groove bottom by means of notched nails. When de-tensioned they do not protrude beyond the outer cylindrical circumference of the piston. One of the notched nails also holds an angled piece of metal which engages the split-gap of the piston ring. Used for machines with reciprocating piston, esp. dry run compressors for gases. Device has relatively simple construction. Risk of rupture of the piston ring is minimised but it does happen, any damage to the cylinder surfaces is effectively prevented.</p> |
