1504997 Orienting articles on conveyers VOGLAR BV 6 Nov 1975 [6 Nov 1974] 46030/75 Heading B8A Apparatus for orienting plant bulbs, such as onions, comprises a bulb supply and dosage mechanism 12, 13 from which the bulbs are fed to a roller conveyer on which the bulbs are oriented such that they pass in the correct position to a top and tail cutting machine 17, the roller conveyer comprising rollers 2 which are each shaped like an hour glass, as shown in Fig. 2 (not shown), so that each bulb falls into a pocket defined between two adjacent rollers 2, the latter being attached to endless conveyer chains 5 (only one of which is shown in Fig. 1) which are driven clockwise in Fig. 1 by respective drive sprockets 6 while the rollers 2 are rotated in an anti-clockwise direction by a driven belt 8 which engages with drive rollers 11 fixedly mounted on the respective axles of the rollers 2. The rollers may alternatively be in the shape of right-circular cylinders which are inclined to the longitudinal axis of the roller conveyer, Fig. 5 (not shown). The rollers may also be formed such that they provide two parallel bulborienting paths, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). |
