<p>1473387 Filter system PALL CORP 30 April 1974 [1 May 1973] 18933/74 Heading B1D [Also in Division F2] A filter for use in a system in which fluid may flow in either direction includes a valve which switches the flow to a by-pass path under reverse flow conditions to prevent the contaminants in the filter from being dislodged and carried into the fluid stream. The valve also provides for by-passing the filter under normal forward flow when the filter becomes blocked. This condition is indicated by an indicator 14. The filter unit 26 is mounted between the valve assembly V1 and a nipple 33 in a bowl-like housing member 9 which screws onto a housing member 6 to a portion 45 of which the valve assembly is attached. The filter element 26 is composed of a corrugated cylindrical filter 27, of stainless steel wire mesh, for example 300 mesh, or a microporous multilayer element having a paper substrate as in U.S. patent No. 3353682, supported on a cylindrical internal core 30 of perforated stainless steel having openings 32 for fluid flow. The ends of the filter element and core are sealed to end caps 28, 29 by potting compound 31. A hydraulic system, Fig. 1 (not shown) includes a filter of the invention in each connecting line between a reversible pump and a motor driven in either direction according to which line is supplied by the pump.</p> |
