The process comprises supplying reinforcing material in the form of yarns, partic. parallel glass fibre yarns, to the sieve of a papermaking machine together with the paper pulp, whereby the continuously supplied yarns pass through the papermaking machine together with the paper pulp and become embedded in the paper with which they are bonded with good mechanical adhesion. The glass fibre yarns may be distributed uniformly over the full width of the sieve, or displaced laterally periodically, so as to form a sinusoidal pattern in the finished material. The process gives a paper which is not stiff and easily creased as is the case when the fibres are applied to the finished paper and which has a more attractive appearance.
|
