The machine has two vertical gear racks. A compressed air reservoir at the top of the machine supplies cylinders each of which puts a force on a fixed horizontal plate. Beneath each fixed plate there is a pivoting plate with an air cylinder at each end. The pistons in these cylinders are attached to the upper fixed plate and the cylinders are connected by flexible pipes to air valves which admit compressed air from a reservoir or release it to an empty reservoir. The valves are operated to tilt the lower plate in a swinging movement which makes it climb up the racks. At the same time the second plate is moving down in a similar way.
