An oil fired central heating system has a fuel tank (1) which, when the system is adapted to use a heat pump, is used as a water reservoir. Water is drawn from this reservoir by a pump (2) and passed through the refrigerant condenser (3) in which it is heated. It then returns to the reservoir. The flow and return (12,13) to the heating system from the reservoir pass through a four way mixing valve (14) which regulates the heating. The refrigerant absorbs heat from the atmosphere in an evaporator (5). The reservoir has pairs of flanges between which external tubes (8) are mounted. An electric heating element (9) is inserted in each of these tubes and provides supplementary heating to the water.
|
