The quantity of damping liquid intended for the plate cylinder (8) of an offset printing machine is to be able to be metered very precisely. The brush roller (5) now no longer takes the damping liquid directly from the dipping roller (2) - there is a spacing between the brush roller and the dipping roller - but removes the damping liquid from a dish (4) into which the damping liquid has been introduced, metered precisely by the dipping roller with the aid of adjustable scrapers (9, 13). The brush roller (5) wipes all the liquid from the dish (4) and conveys this liquid (6, 7) onto the plate cylinder (8). At least one of the scrapers (9, 13) can be adjusted very precisely. Such a precise, desired metering of the quantity of damping liquid can be achieved that this brush unit is also suitable for jobbing presses. <IMAGE>
