<p>Detection of traces of vinyl chloride (VC) in air by colouration of an indicator paper, impregnated with a reagent, according to concn. gas throughout and contact time of the gas component to be measured. The amt. of colouration is a measure of the concn. The VC is thermally split and the HCl originating serves as a measure for the VC concn. Pref. indicator paper sensitive to HCl is one impregnated with Ag2CrO4, and the thermal splitting of VC without catalyst is at 1200 degrees K, followed by cooling of the gas to be measured to room temp. The error effect on VC measurements due to halogenated hydrocarbons is removed (pref.) by their hydrolytic splitting before the heating and cooling. stages. The appts./procedure may be used, continuously or discontinuously, for the reliable estimation of VC in air at a sensitivity of 1 ppm.</p> |
