The appliance is for the mechanical movement of suspension rails for moving sheet materials into and out of processing machines. A driver is fastened to a continuous conveyor which moves between two pulleys. The pulleys are positioned in a vertical plane and the conveyor has a drive pin which constantly projects into a recess (16) of a drive plate (7). The recess is stepped at a first section (16a) of a height to allow the pin to move without contacting any point. A second section has a higher horizontal shape (16d), and forms a vertical contact surface (16c) relative to the first section. This allows the drive plate to be removed when it is in and end position, in which the drive pin is above the horizontal shape.
