Undesirable constituents are stripped of oil substances of vegetable or animal origin in a contact stage in which a distillation aid is at a high temp. and press. to reduce the boiling point of the constituents. A tubular hydrolysis stage at the discharge from the contact stage is followed by an expansion stage. This results in a better purificn. of the edible oils which have a longer shelf life and are free from oxygen cpds.
