Trailing rear axle frame - has tapering section with narrow centre for flexibility and heavy end sections for lateral strength

The trailing rear axle frame is made from simple T or L section metal frame with the horizontal sections of the profile tapering towards the centre of the vehicle. The side arms are rigidly attached to the cross member (31) for good lateral strength. The frame flexes about its transverse axis, on the weakened middle section. The stronger end sections of the middle frame serve as lateral stabilisers allowing the frame to be fitted with cross struts. The frame is light and simple to make. It is fitted to the chassis by elastic pivots. It can be used for trailing as well as driven axles.
