Plates, are rendered flame resistant by adding to the starting material dust or other wastes from the prodn. of (ferro)silicon pref. in the oxidised form. Filter dust or other particulate wastes from prodn. of silicon and ferrosilicon, pref. in the oxidised form, provided to have excellent fireproofing properties. Light, flame-resistant chipboards or other structural elements can be produced at low price.
