1507241 Flexible-disc recording and playback INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 28 Sept 1976 [4 Nov 1975 (2)] 40110/76 Heading G5R A selected peripheral gap between two adjacent flexible record discs 7 in a rotating stack 1 is widened (as at 18a, Fig. 5, to admit a transducer 8) by increased air pressure applied centrally by way of a peripherally-apertured hub 3-1 slidable within the permeable hollow core 6 of the stack. As shown, the increased pressure is applied via tubes 3-7 and 203-2, and further tubes 203-12 and 203-3 permit the pressure on either side of the selected gap to be reduced or increased to assist in opening or reclosing the gap. The pressure generally within the core 6 also may be increased but is normally maintained via tubes 2-10 and 14b at such a level as to induce bi-stable flight of the discs.
