A fluid control valve 90 comprises a disc element 118 made of an elastomeric material and axially movably arranged within a surrounding bore for co-operation with at least one fixed annular valve seat 88 disposed coaxially of the bore, and further having a reinforcing member 106 comprising a substantially radial portion embedded in the disc 118 over the whole radial dimension thereof, and a skirt 112. The member 106 is preferably made of " Nylon ". A second seat 118 is formed on the disc element and co-operates with a valve member 120. The valve 90 is incorporated in a fluid pressure servomotor 10 of the vacuum suspended type wherein a vacuum exists on both sides 14, 16 of the diaphragm 18 when the servomotor is at rest. When fluid pressure is applied from the master cylinder (not shown) to port 50, the piston 24 forces brake fluid through outlet 52. In addition, the plunger 100 is forced on to the poppet valve 90 thus shutting off chamber 16 from the vacuum imposed via the route 66, chamber 14, 62, 98, orifice 136, 138. Further movement of the plunger raises the cap 120 from the seat 118 (Fig. 2) to allow air to pass into chamber 16. The piston 20 moves to the right to assist the braking action.</p> |
