USE OF LIPOSOMES AS CARRIERS FOR METALLOPORPHYRINS

2042576 9104667 PCTABS00003 Pharmaceutical compositions comprising liposomal metalloporphyrins are provided for parenteral administration to mammals, including humans. These liposomal metalloporphyrins selectively target the spleen and markedly inhibit the heme oxygenase activity therein. A method is also provided for intravenous administration of these compositions to mammals to selectively target the spleen.
