1396554 Purifying olefins AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 30 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 30832/72 Heading C5E Olefins or mixtures thereof with saturated hydrocarbons and/or hydrogen are purified to remove therefrom one or more of O 2 , H 2 O, oxides of carbon, acetylenes and diolefins by contact with an organometallic derivative containing reactive hydrogen which has been reversibly replaced by a metal. A solution or suspension of the organometallic compound may be contacted with the olefin in gaseous form in a gas-liquid countercurrent washing. The preferred compounds are alkali metal derivatives of mono or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or of an amine. The activity of the organometallic compound may be increased by the conjoint use of tertiary monoamine or a chelating polyamine as complexing and solubilizing agent. The solvent may be an aromatic, olefinic or saturated hydrocarbon. Examples describe the purification of ethylene and propylene using a variety of organosodium compounds.
