1472252 Cooling reactors NUCLEAR POWER CO (WHETSTONE) Ltd 24 April 1974 [25 April 1973] 19599/73 Heading F4U [Also in Division G6] In a protective arrangement for a cooling system of a kind in which a fluid coolant is circulated under pressure through a path including a region to be protected against overheating, means are arranged to respond to a reduction in the normal coolant feed due to a breach upstream from that region and to inject an auxiliary fluid coolant through nozzle means into the system under pressure upon such reduction, the nozzle means being arranged to maintain a flow of coolant in the normal direction and to prevent reverse flow for a period following the above reduction. The fluid may be liquid or gas or two-phase, and the arrangement may be for a steam-generating heavy water nuclear reactor with a core 6, Fig. 1 with a water/steam reservoir 12, Fig. 2 for auxiliary cooling via injector devices 11. Examples of injector devices are described, Figs. 3 to 8, 11 and 12 (none shown).
|
