1472764 Drying strands of plastics material CF SCHEER & CIE 14 Oct 1974 [13 Oct 1973] 44515/74 Heading F4G An apparatus for drying at least one strand 16 of plastics material, comprises a pair of feed rolls 22 at least one roll 22 having a resilient peripheral surface, the rolls feeding the strand(s) through at least one gap 30, and means for causing a current of air to pass through the gap. The gap 30 is formed between reduced diameter portions of a pair of rolls 24. The rolls 24 form the material outlet side of a suction chamber 10, 12, 14. The rolls 22 form the material inlet side of the chamber 10, 12, 14. The reduced pressure in the chamber causes the aforementioned current of air. The chamber is sealed by sealing flaps 32, 34 co-operating with the rolls. Three such chambers are shown and they communicate with a common chamber 40 into which exhaust air flows, the liquid carried from the plastics material being precipitated in the chamber by the impingement of the liquid entraining air into baffles 42, 44, 46. |
