1472377 Recovering oil CALGON CORP 29 April 1975 [8 May 1974] 17777/75 Heading E1F In the secondary or tertiary recovery of petroleum, the displacing medium comprises water, a water soluble polymer and a water soluble dialdehyde of the formula: in which n is 0, 1, 2 or 3. Preferably the dialdehyde is glyoxal and the polymer is partially hydrolysed polyacrylamide or a co-polymer of acrylamide and 2-acrylamido methylpropane sulphonic acid. The displacing medium contains from 0.1-10.0 moles of dialdehyde per mole of amide constituent of the polymer and from 0.0025-0.5 per cent by weight of polymer. Preferably the displacing medium is kept in a substantially oxygenfree condition.
