Alloxan, alloxan monohydrate, and alloxan tetrahydrate can be used to inhibit and/or prevent the growth of undesirable herbs, bacteria, fungi, yeast, and other microorganisms. This invention is particularly concerned with the bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties of alloxan compounds against Staphy-lococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
