A hoist for use in sheet piling operations or the like which comprises a base frame and a vertically movable platform supported thereon. The platform is raised and lowered by operation of a single power driven lift screw mounted in an upright end portion of the base frame with the platform being connected to a bottom, horizontally disposed portion of the base frame by a scissors mechanism which holds the platform in a plane parallel with the plane of the horizontal portion of the base frame as the platform is raised and lowered.
