<p>Rubber compsn. (A) contains >0.5 (0.5-10) esp 1-6 pts. wt Co salt, (I), of an esp 6-30C organic acid, >0.5 (0.5-10) esp 1-6 pts. wt of a monohydroxybenzoic acid component, (II), and 100 wt pts. rubber. A pref compsn. (B), also contains>0.5 (0.5-10) pts. wt of >=1 resin, (III) of alkyl-phenol- or of cresol-HCHO type. Compsns. are used for prodn of vulcanised tyre cord-reinforced rubber products, e.g. tyres and conveyor belts. Tyre cord may be of fibre material or steel, esp. a Cu alloy-coated steel. Compsns. (A) have improved adhesion to tyre cord, esp. wire, under both standard and excess vulcanisation, Vulcanisation is not retarded. Compsns (B) have high adhesion to nylon and Kevlar (RTM) cord and to Zn-or brass coated steel. Adhesive properties under excessive heating and under humidity conditions are improved. In an example, 3 pts. wt p-hydroxybenzoic acid were added to standard compsn. contg. 100 pts. wt natural rubber and 5 pts. Co naphthenate, plus standard additives. Adhesion to brass-coated steel cord, after vulcanisation, improved from 64 (75) to 78 (100)% rubber coverage.</p> |
