1343650 Stranding cored cables; unwinding tension devices SOUTHWIRE CO 10 May 1971 [18 May 1970] 14014/71 Headings D1J and D1T Wire supply bobbins 25 (Fig. 1) are mounted axially, or parallel to the axis, in a cable strander, and are weighted at 24 so that they do not rotate. Wire is withdrawn from them overend and wrapped round a core wire 40. The twist inserted in the cable wires on withdrawal is stated to keep the wires in the resultant cable close together. In Figure 1 the bobbins are mounted on stems 21 pivoted at 22 to weighted hubs 20, and may be raised to a vertical position (dotted) for loading and unloading. The wire is withdrawn through a tube 31 mounted on a flyer arm 26. In Figure 2 the weighted bobbin 55 is clamped at 52 to a freely rotatable spindle 61. A flange 62 is rotatably mounted on the spindle, and the wire passes over its edge, being tensioned by engagement with radially extending bristles 59 mounted on sleeve 60 fixed to spindle 61. Further embodiments show arrangements where the bobbins are spaced from the rotational axis of the machine.
|
