A Cr electroplating bath, consisting of an aq. Cr(VI) soln. contg. 200-600 g/1 CrO3, together with 1-20 g/1 SO4, 2-30 g/1 SIfl, 0-20 g/1 K and 0-50 g/1 Sr ions, also contains 2-100, pref. 2-50 g/1 metal complex (I) of a polyhalogenated polycarboxylic acid (II) as synergistic agent. The bath makes it possible to obtain a better throwing power and current yield, higher current density and greater hardness of the Cr plating, i.e. up to 1500 Vickers units. The plating has few flaws and good adhesion to the substrate. It is bright to mat light grey, depending on the substrate surface quality and current density. |
